Through out 2011 AFLNZ will be implementing an after school progamme for primary and intermediate school students called ‘AFL Kiwikick’ targeting children between the ages of 5 to 12 years of age and focusing on motor skills. The programme runs for an eight week periods through out the year from 3.00pm to 4.00pm and takes place on the same day each week.
We will require the assistance of casual staff for the positions of Centre Co-Ordinators and Coaching Co-Ordinators. The positions will involve a minimum of one and a half hours per week for the 8 week course. The opportunity is available for staff to attend more than one centre per week if preferred and can lead to Area and Regional Co-ordinator positions
Employment Locations
All employees will be given the opportunity to be involved with schools as close as possible in proximity to their daily routines. The AFLNZ is approaching the programme on a national scale and so all areas will be considered.
Training
The AFL Kiwikick Programme is run in conjunction with the AFL Auskick Programme in Australia and works hand in hand with the AFL’s National Coaching Accreditation Scheme. It is the aim of the AFLNZ to provide all employees with a minimum of a Level 1 Auskick Coaching Accreditation.
Work Hours
The hours of work involved at an AFLKiwikick Centre level are targeted at a time format that suits ‘after school hours’. The aim is to make the co-ordination of attendance a simple process for the parents of participants. The daily routine regarding pick up times after school need only have a time adjustment for parents involved.
The day that the programme will be held will be a fixed time slot and day for each school. Eg. Every Tuesday 3.00pm to 4.00pm for 8 weeks. The selected day will revolve around a combination of suitability for both the school, participants and the AFLNZ employee.
For those employees involved with more than one AFL Kiwikick Centre it is important to schedule different days for different schools so as not to overlap attendance.
Opportunities for advancement
Further employment opportunities will be created when and the programme expands.
With the formation of five AFL Kiwikick Centres in a specific area cluster, the position of Area Co-ordinator can be formed.
This will involve approximately 10 to 12 hours per week for a ten week period.
With the formation of five cluster areas (25 AFL Kiwikick Centres), the position Regional Co-ordinator can be formed.
Job Decsriptions
Descriptions and pay rates will be completed and forwarded on application.
The three underlying principles of the positions will involve;
- The delivery of a quality programme.
- The recruitment and involvement of volunteers (parents) to assist with the running of the programme.
- Links to clubs and community and the development of a community driven sport.
User Pays Programme
The AFL Kiwikick Programme relies on revenue from its participants to operate effectively.
The resources that include employee wages, centre equipment and the AFL Kiwikick gear pack provided for all participants, are costs that can only be paid for by the fees that each participant will pay for the 8 week course.
There will be a minimum requirement of participants for each AFL Kiwikick Centre for the centre to be established. If this cannot be achieved, participants will be given the option of attending the nearest centre to that school to achieve he minimum numbers required.

What now?
AFLNZ in partnership with the AFL is in the process of organizing both the National Coaching Accreditation Level 1 courses for employees and the public as well as Level O orientation courses that will be made available to volunteers and parents.
With the roll out of this new programme it is important that we continue the process of approaching schools with the opportunity of presenting at their assemblies what we have to offer.
For this reason it is important we establish those interested in the positions available as well as your available start times.
