The Wellington Tigers have broken Aucklands seven year hold on the National Provincial Championship with three wins from as many games at Parrs Park over the October long weekend.
In the closest championship on record all four teams competed at a level that could have seen any one of the teams take 2009 honours.

Six games overall for the weekend with four games being decided by a solitary goal. Moving into the second day, undefeated teams Wellington and Auckland came up against each other in a match that saw Wellington lead for the duration with Auckland fighting back in the last quarter to finally take the lead for the first time. With one minute remaining Wellington scored the fnal two goals of the match to secure a long awaited victory.
